MONDO p.U. 105 POLYURETHANE ADHESIVE
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Print Page
HOW TO INSTALL PLATFORM SURFACES USING
MONDO PU105 POLYURETHANE ADHESIVE
Description

The P.U. 105 is a high performance two component adhesive for both indoor and outdoor installations of Mondo rubber and PVC floor covering. It has excellent resistance to moisture, heat and water, plus outstanding adhesion in low temperatures. This is the only recommended adhesive for installing Mondo’s flooring over asphalt and has been used very successfully to install Rough-tex Diving Platform Surface to concrete diving platforms.

Limitations
  1. Protect from freezing in transit and storage. If frozen, allow it to return to room temperature without stirring.
  2. Do not use when the substrate temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius) or above 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degree Celsius).
  3. Concrete floors must be completely cured (28 days minimum) and free from moisture vapor emissions and alkaline conditions. A calcium chloride test should not exceed 5 lbs. / 1000 square feet / 24 hours (2.27 kg / 93 s.m. / 24 hours) as per ASTM 1869 OR the relative humidity of the slab must not exceed 75% per ASTM F 2170 Insitu Probe Method.

Setting Instructions

Surface Preparation:

All surfaces must be structurally sound, smooth, solid, level, well fastened, dry, clean and free of dust, oil, grease, paint, tar, wax or any other deleterious substances that may prevent or reduce adhesion. The substrate should be inspected and meet Mondo America’s specifications.

Mixing:

This adhesive consists of two components that must be mixed together with a variable speed mixer (6 amps minimum) until a homogenous and smooth consistency is obtained. The mix must be used within 60 minutes. The flooring must be installed while the adhesive is wet.

Trowel Size:

The trowel size must comply with our recommendations for the product to be installed. SEE BELOW for more information or please contact the Mondo Technical Department.

Application:

Apply the adhesive with the recommended trowel. Special care must be taken that the adhesive is not applied too thinly. The instant grab of P.U. 105 is low, which will require that weights be applied over all seams of the material applied and on certain commercial floorings, to maintain contact until adhesive has set (minimum of 12 hours).

Install the flooring material onto the wet adhesive. Do not walk over a newly laid installation before 24 hours. For heavy rolling traffic, do not use before 72 hours. The setting time of the adhesive will depend mainly on the temperature of the substrate and the floor covering. The initial setting time is seven (7) hours at 23 degrees Celsius (73 degrees Fahrenheit).

Cleaning or removal of adhesive must be done with denatured alcohol while the adhesive is still wet.

Pot Life at 73 degree Fahrenheit (23 degrees Celsius):
90 minutes
Drying time at 73 degrees Fahrenheit (23 degree Celsius):
24 hours
Freeze-thaw stability at O degrees Fahrenheit (-18 degrees Celsius):
Stable 5 cycles
Flash point:
.Part A&B >60 degrees Celsius (>140 degrees Fahrenheit)
Maximum tolerance of moisture / Vapor emission from the concrete slab (using the anhydrous calcium chloride test):
5 lbs. Per 1000 square feet (2.27 kg/92.9 meters squared) per 24 hours
Cleanability:
With Denatured Alcohol while adhesive is fresh.
Color:
White / Cream
Consistency:
.Buttery

Pails: 1.98 US Gallons (7.5 Liters)

Shelf life is approximately 12 months when stored in original containers at room temperature in a dry heated area.

Typical Recommended Trowel (depth, width, space):

1/32” x 1/16” x 1/32” U-Notch Trowel (0.8 x 1.6 x 0.8 mm) will cover approximately 185 – 245 square feet per U.S. Gallon. NOTE: Quantities shown are approximate and given for estimating purposes only. Actual jobsite coverage may vary according to substrate conditions, type of trowel and setting practices. Consult Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for more information.

Protection

Provide for heated storage on site or deliver all materials at least 24 hours before work begins.
NO foot traffic for a minimum of 24 hours after installation and NO heavy (wheel, cart, rolling loads, etc.) for a minimum of 72 hours in order to allow proper adhesive set-up and curing. Failure to follow this recommendation can lead to dispersion of adhesive under flooring prior to proper setting and can result in unwanted air pockets and bubbles.

NOTE: Refer to Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for more information regarding uses, application, limitations and safety.
